Oratorio Fanese
The Fanese Oratory is one of the three synagogues housed in the Via Mazzini complex. Built in the seventeenth century, it is the synagogue used today for daily functions by the Jewish community of Ferrara.
The Fanese Oratory was built in the seventeenth century, when the aron (cabinet containing the Torah) was built in polychrome marble in which Torah scrolls from Lugo are kept. On its sides are two black marble columns and two seats with marble inlays of various colours. Unlike the German synagogue, here the bimah (the tribune from which the Torah is read) is located in the centre with benches on the sides. These furnishings come from the synagogue of Cento, as well as the nineteenth-century portal at the entrance of the rectangular hall. The latter was mounted in reverse and the Hebrew inscription "May the righteous come onto me", which should welcome the faithful at the entrance, instead becomes a sort of warning that can be read at the exit.
