Teatro Off
Teatro Off is based at the Baluardo del Montagnone, and has been managed by the eponymous association since 2013. Theatre, dance, painting, poetry, literature and music events and performances are organised.
Brief History
Teatro Off is located in one of the industrial buildings occupied by AMGA offices up until the 1980s, part of a larger complex – including a brick building from 1929 of some architectural value – built on Alfonso I d’Este’s Baluardo del Montagnone.
The building, owned by the municipality, was repurposed within the scope of the Progetto Mura project. After a period in which it was used as the headquarters for the Dazdramir youth centre, in 2013 the administration awarded it to Ferrara Off to manage.
The Architectural Structure
The Theatre is located in the south-east section of the walls surrounding the city. It occupies a space of 150 square metres, and can host an audience of around a hundred. Since 29 November 2015, with the opening of the “spazio bianco” (white space) adjacent to the auditorium, artistic activities have been expanded to include cultural projects of various types.
The Activities
The Ferrara Off association puts on an annual program, generally divided into quarters, with weekly public theatre, dance, painting, poetry, literature and music dates. It produces shows and events, in partnership with important local associations, and some national and European organisations. Between October and May it puts on theatre, dance and art courses and workshops for children, adolescents and adults.
