Redevelopment of the Baluardo dell'Amore
The need for practical requalification aimed at reconnecting the different paths atop the city walls and creating city-to-wall permeability was an opportunity to create routes for visitors to the Bastion, faithfully retracing those of the past.
Entering the site from Via Baluardi, one immediately sees a curtain wall made up of what remains of the walls built by Borso d’Este and the Porta dell’Amore gate. The latter extends upwards thanks to a metal structure that reproduces its original proportions and supports the connecting walkway.
Internal elements found within the tower, i.e. two small vaulted rooms dating to 1557, can be seen on the lower level: one in the centre, originally used as a weapons depot, and the other set up as an oratory.
The terracotta and stone floors that were discovered have been protected by a new, overlapping floor, which echoes the original materials and textures.
